![]() The thermostat is constantly opening and closing to regulate the engine coolant temp into a specified range. So there is no exact temp sorry but this is how it is. The thermostats should in theory fail in an open configuration but it's worth checking. The code pops if the engine doesn't warm up within a preset time period. This condensation can result in sludge formation. Run 170 degrees water temp they run great, 200,000 to 300,000 miles easy. These are: longer engine warm-up time, unreliable warm-up performance, increased exhaust emissions and crankcase condensation. The 5.7 and 6.4 hemis are a great example. Operating without a thermostat causes other problems. Even towing an 1800 pound teardrop, I rarely see it above 220. My '14 will normally run in the 210 to 220 range over some hills at 75MPH on a hot day, and that is completely normal.
